PETER KUELPresident |
Peter Kuel is a longtime community leader, entrepreneur, and human rights advocate. Born in what is now South Sudan, he moved to the US for further opportunity and education in 2003. With decades of experience as a taxi driver, then a rideshare driver with Uber and Lyft, Peter is one of the leaders who built a powerful driver rights movement in Seattle and the Puget Sound region. This driver-led movement has set unprecedented national standards over the last decade, organizing to win driver rights including statewide fair pay standards, legal protection from unfair deactivations, funding for a Driver Resource Center, and access to worker benefits like sick leave, paid family medical leave, workers compensation, and unemployment insurance. The movement led to the creation of Drivers Union in 2020, an organization of drivers fighting for fairness and dignity at work and in our communities. As a human rights activist who has lived through displacement, hardship, and uncertainty, Peter has also founded and led several other organizations, including the South Sudan International Advocacy for Human Rights and the Sudanese Community Development Services. |
