Historic Paid Family & Medical Leave Win for WA Drivers - Drivers Union

Historic Paid Family & Medical Leave Win for WA Drivers

Today, with the passage HB 1570 in the Washington State Senate, UBER & LYFT drivers in Washington state will become the first in the nation to win the right to Paid Family and Medical Leave

The new law goes into effect in July 2024 and also guarantees drivers ongoing access to unemployment benefits under state law.

Once Paid Family and Medical Leave coverage goes into effect, if you or your family face extended medical challenges, or need to take time off to care for a newborn child, you will be entitled to up to 12 weeks of paid leave. For drivers who enroll, UBER and LYFT are required by law to pay for the full cost of premiums.

While Paid Family and Medical Leave enrollment won’t come online for UBER and LYFT drivers until 2024, Drivers Union continues the fight to ensure that our community is cared for. This is why we’ve recently launched Drivers Union Benefits, a new suite of benefits for Drivers Union members that includes free around the clock access to doctors via telemedicine, discounts on prescription medication, legal assistance after car accidents, and more.
